Essay on Interpersonal conflict in film ââ¬ÅAmerican Beautyââ¬Â
Essay on Interpersonal conflict in film ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠Essay on Interpersonal conflict in film ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠Essay on Interpersonal conflict in film ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠Each and every family cannot be complete without conflicts between children and parents. Moreover, there is absolutely nothing wrong in that as ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠conflicts help to relieve the tension between the participants and give the opportunity to find a compromise solution without compromising the interests of any family member. As a result, such conflicts help to strengthen the relationships. Though, all this is truth only in respect of reasonably resolved conflicts. Much more often disputes and quarrels may become the reason for suppressed resentment, psychological complexes and may even cause split of a family. In this essay it will go about the interrelation conflict that has been shown in such popular movie as ââ¬Å"American Beautyâ⬠. Namely we would like to talk about the conflict between parents and their children. Lester, father of the family, is a typical representative of the middle class who faces the midlife crisis and drags out miserable and worthless existence. He is sick and tired of everything; his wife and daughter think that he is a worthless loser. He thinks that he has lost something and does not know what. His wife, Caroline, hates him and treats her daughter as a slave. She is hysterical and obsessive with the external trappings of prosperity hiding her inner ugliness and emptiness. Their only daughter is Jane ââ¬â a typical teenager who is easily vulnerable and notorious. She despites her parents and wants them to disappear from her life. It can be seen from the very first scenes of the movie when Jane says that she does not want to have such a father. Further, she says to her friend Angela ââ¬Å"why canââ¬â¢t my parents have their own life without me?â⬠From the first glance, it may seem that it is a perfect American family that has common interests, but, in fact, all of the family members hate each other. Both of the parents are totally concent rated on their own lives and problems (mother with her lover and father with his crisis and passion to a young girl). They totally ignore their daughter and show no interest to her life and opinion and that is a great mistake as normal, friendly and trusting relations are very important in every family. Jane is an already formed personality with her own principles and beliefs, but her parents do not understand that while hiding over their own interests in life.Despite the fact that from time to time parents of Jane try to show some interest in her life (for instance, when Lester tries to become closer to her through her young friend Angela), Jane still hates them. Mother with her obsession with material goods only for some time forgets about them, she still returns to the materialistic values she appreciates the most.To my opinion, the conflict between parents and Jane resulted right from the conflict between Lester and Caroline who could not handle their problems, forget about thei r own interests and concentrate on the most important ââ¬â their daughter. One may think that father still understood his fault at the end and, thus, the problem could be solved. Still, this movie shows the problem that is characteristic to many families all around the world. Parents should interest more in their children, support them and respect their opinion and beliefs.

4 Career Fears You Need to Face
4 Career Fears You Need to Face Fear. Itââ¬â¢s not just the feeling that strikes when youââ¬â¢re home alone watching scary movies and suddenly thereââ¬â¢s aà noise outside your window. It can happen in a much more mundane, brightly-lit place: your desk at work. In fact, the office can be a place where all of your self-doubts and worries compound into a big, career-blocking blob. But youââ¬â¢re not alone- millions of people have responded to polls and surveys about their concerns. What are some of the most common work-related fears?1. Losing the jobWhether youââ¬â¢re a rockstar at work or feel like youââ¬â¢ve been making too many mistakes, fear of losing your job has little to do with actual performance and more to do with your own personal need for stability.2. Performance anxietyMaybe your boss wasnââ¬â¢t as enthusiastic as she could have been after your last presentation. Maybe a new performance review process has you feeling uncertain about whether your year was really as productive as you wanted it to be. Any uncertainty or lack of positive feedback can feed this apprehension.3. Not fitting inWhether itââ¬â¢s middle school or the office break room, no one wants to be the uncool kid. We spend most of our waking hours with our coworkers, and universal social anxieties may show up. It can be tempting to try to play a certain character type in meetings or defer to othersââ¬â¢ thoughts and ideas instead of your own.4. Being left behindWith social media giving a new platform to everyday triumphs (ââ¬Å"Guess whoââ¬â¢s rocking it today?â⬠), it can turn the workday into a competitive exercise. This plays into anxieties about stagnating in your job while the real stars move on to higher titles and bigger paydays. What can we do to move past these? The best way to conquer these fears (or at least tame them into submission before) is to acknowledge that theyââ¬â¢re happening, name them, and be clear with yourself about the steps youââ¬â¢re taking to overcome them. That could mean communicating more openly with your colleagues or even just taking small steps forward on a project youââ¬â¢ve been avoiding because it seemed daunting.Embrace the fears that are holding you back, and then step neatly around them on your career path.Read More at Fast Company

Health and social care media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Health and social care media - Essay Example In addition to that, I will also identify and describe different techniques for presenting information in the media while analyzing how the different ways in which information is presented influences the attitudes and behavior of people. Furthermore, I will also explain the ways in which information may be used to influence the attitudes and behavior of people in relation to health and social care. In order for a message about health care and social change to reach the targeted audience media is used in many forms to accomplish this goal. Imagine for example the importance of television when it comes to launching a campaign about the care of terminally ill people. Or take for example, the campaign about raising money for health care issues such as solving the cancer problem for the children at Saint Luke's Hospital. In addition to using the TV other forms of media proved efficient when it came to raise awareness about the healthcare issues and the social changes. Such forms of media are print media which usually comes in forms of brochures, pamphlets, direct mail, books, etc. Radio media is again an important source of making people conscientious about health care issues and the social change. Less used are the outdoor forms of media such as billboards, although in some cases billboards are also used to raising awareness among people. Returning to the launching of print c... , first of all the launching of the campaign is meant to improve the ways in which advocacy about such health issues is used in order to better the patient's conditions. Furthermore, through the commission of the pocket guides the media who launched the campaigns hoped to "help hospital staff to understand better the needs of vulnerable older patients and their families and perhaps to appreciate more fully the importance of taking a person-centered approach." Additionally, the launching of the campaign had another purposed of raising awareness about the need for the people of 65 years of age or older to receive better quality care podiatric care in order to reduce the risk of falls, and the also meeting the needs and understanding the role of older careers. Regards the attitudes toward the health care issues such as depression, the launching of the campaign has promoted a "concept of 'successful ageing' developed at the Nuffield Institute for Health, the report calls for improved health and care services to improve older people's quality of life through meaningful activities, socializing and help in adjusting to loss." It is obvious that the launching of the campaign in forms of guides, pamphlets, brochures, etc has raised the awareness among the people about the health issues and the social change of the older people; not only it has raised the awareness, but through that I had proposed solutions to improving or eliminating the existing health care issues. In conclusion, we notices so far the information relevant to health and social care usually reach the public domain through some sort of campaign in which media is involved, The forms of media used, ad we have seen previously are TV, radio, and in the case that we studied print media had prove to be the most

Accounting for Income Tax Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Accounting for Income Tax - Essay Example In the same way, the recognition of deferred tax liabilities and assets in combination of an entity has implications on the extent of goodwill that is realised in the recognised bargain purchase gain or in such an entity combination. Other areas that are dealt with by this standard include the recognition of differed tax assets that are generated from unused tax credits or unused tax losses, and the disclosure of income taxes information and the presentation of income taxes in the financial statements (EFRAG, 2011). According to IAS 12, the way, a liability is settled or the way an asset is recovered can have implications on either the itemââ¬â¢s tax base or the relevant tax rate, or both. For example, if a vehicle is sold, indexation can be applied on it, in addition to tax deductions against the proceeds of its original cost. In other words, the tax base of the vehicle would act as the vehicleââ¬â¢s indexed cost. On the other hand, if the vehicle is used to run business with the purpose of making taxable profits, corporation tax allowances are not provided, and in that note, its tax base would be zero. It is, however, essential to know that the tax rates applied on use of an item or on sales differ from one jurisdiction to the other (EFRAG, 2011). Difficulties of applying and understanding IAS12 and provide examples. The standards are perceived by the users of financial statements as complex, incomplete and non-standardised. In particular, the information regarding the deferred tax is considered, by users, to be to be insufficient to an extent that it is difficult to forecast the future tax cash flows, accurately. Incidentally, it would have been much helpful if the users are able to understand the strategy applied by an entity, which should be coupled with clear clarifications on the treatment of tax expenses because users do not have the technical accounting knowledge to understand accounting irregularities and complex tax issues that characterise the financial statements. These limitations originate from lack of reflection of the economics of transactions by the accounting method, and from the current standardââ¬â¢s exceptions to the principles - IAS 12 requirements to recognise deferred tax on assets estimated at fair value, and long leasehold investment assets does not reveal the economic implications of recovering the property (EFRAG, 2011). In some jurisdictions, the seller is prohibited from deducting the cost of the property against the income following its use. In such a situation, the fair value of the property will show the present value of future cash flows minus the payments of future tax. Although the current provisions by IAS12 may not reveal the economic impacts of getting back the carrying amount in such situations, when the property is valued at fair value, the deferred tax liability reproduces a tax impact that is perhaps already featured in

Chicken Ala Carte Essay Example for Free
Chicken Ala Carte Essay Thousands of people die every day due to hunger and malnutrition. This short film shows a forgotten portion of the society. The people who live on the refuse of men to survive. What is inspiring is the hope and spirituality that never left this people. It clearly displayed that hunger and poverty kicks as main problem of the society and some people are too blind to see it. The videography of the film was too shaky and some parts are blurry. This is actually effective for me as for the fact that it is a documentary and it made me feel like I am in the real setting of the event. Another element is the actors in the film. They portrayed their roles truly and they were really convincing which made the film so sympathetic and melancholic. The songs used in the later part of the film also added to the mood. The setting of the film was very dirty and crowded, enough components to represent a place where poverty is happening. The kids in the squattersââ¬â¢ area were also good representations of hunger and malnutrition in an isolated community. The most powerful part of the story, for me, was when the father tapped his kid on his hands, which cannot wait to eat, just because he forgot to pray. This showed me that even though things are getting to worse than expected, we still have to give thanks to Him for we are blessed that we still live this life with His spirit guiding us. It also displayed to me the spirituality of a man and his faith that is strong enough to continue living their lives. Furthermore, this film made me realize that I am so blessed. Many people out there struggle for food while I can easily buy them anywhere I wanted to. I can choose where to live while they cannot because they cannot afford a concrete shelter. These people are the ones in need and we must have time to reach out for them to have their chance of having a life with comfort. In addition, I couldnââ¬â¢t stop myself from having sympathy for those who are on the overlooked portion of our country for they are the ones who deserve to benefit the profit our country has earned. In this kind of situation, you canââ¬â¢t really avoid to demand that those people should be the one our government should be focusing on improving oneââ¬â¢s life due to the fact that since they pursue themselves to the politics, it is their duty to serve their countrymen first before anything else. Aside from scarcity, I believe education is also the key to keep away from those kinds of circumstances in life because if you are a well-educated person, you will be aware of family planning and most especially you have the capability to earn money and buy foods in order for you and your family to survive.

The Truth About Orthodox Christianity :: essays research papers fc
As described in The Grand Inquisitor by Dostoevsky The writings of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Helen Ellerbe show substantial evidence that the orthodox Christians did in fact steal from humanity the divine freedom it was promised by Jesus Christ. This thesis is supported in Dostoevsky's "The Grand Inquisitor" from his book The Brothers Karamazov. The dark side of Christian history by Helen Ellerbe also supports this theory. The Inquisition itself shows credibility to the theory that orthodox Christianity was established to conquer and control the freedom of humans. 2. Orthodox Christianity has a history of trying to deceive humanity. In her book, Ellerbe proclaims that: "Orthodox Christianity fostered humanity's shift towards a world view that pays little heed to the idea of divinity." (Ellerbe 165). In addition, the Grand Inquisitor "...claims it as a merit for himself and his Church that at last they have vanquished freedom and have done so to make men happy." (Dostoevsky 1081). 3. Reading "The Grand Inquisitor" while considering the history of early Christianity, the question can be asked, "Did orthodox Christians really believe in God?" Or is the God they believed in a guise that Christianity has put forward to have humanity believe in Him through its teachings only. The Roman Church had taken God's celebrations of nature and converted them to Christian celebration. In The dark side of Christian history, Ellerbe supports this when she writes "Unable to convince people of the absence of God in nature, the early Church instead incorporated aspects of the very nature worship it condemned..." (Ellerbe 143). 4. The Spanish Inquisition was established in 1478. King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella I requested the Inquisition. At first, The concern of the Inquisition in Spain was over the conversion of Marranos: Marranos were Jews that were converted to Christianity using force and pressure by society. It is estimated that by the end of the 14th century about 100,000 Jews had become Marranos, although the greater number of Jews openly adhered to their faith even at the risk of expulsion. Some Marranos actually accepted Christianity, but most of them practiced Judaism in secret, while others waited only for an opportunity to throw off their Christian disguise (Encarta 99). Later, the Inquisition turned to people of Islam and attempted to convert the in the same way they had done to the Jews. And, even later, to those suspected of being Protestants. The Spanish Inquisition was similar to the first inquisition that was started in France.

How Culture Affects Managers
How culture affects manager in international organizations. In the last few years globalization has been expanded all around the world in different areas and technology. International organizations have the same effect, organizations that want to have an adventure must require managers or leaderships with general awareness of cultural variables that may affect the business and make this a success or a flop. Since culture has become one of the main obstacles to standardize decisions and processes in multinational enterprises, a barrier that is sometimes impossible to overcome â⬠¦(XII) After the end of World War II growth of globalization has become widespread, thanks to advances in communication, transportation, technology and trading system. The world is moving into a new millennium and we cannot ignore the importance of international business, and the administration thereof. However adaptation to culture is the most difficult challenge doing international business, this requires an understanding of the different culture, perceptions, stereotypes and values. Only the managers with a wide cultural sensitivity will success. No single nation can be complacent about itself and does not need the assistance and support of other countries, even the riches nations need which lack resources and through global negotiations and agreements supplement their needs and wants. The development of international trade makes countries prosper by leveraging its assets produce better, and then exchanged with other countries, which in turn they produce best. When companies are interested in international trade or looking to diversify markets, they need to negotiate with foreign firms, then countries will be better off. To achieve this they have to resolve conflict or mishaps that may rise when negotiating, because many times one party is not willing to give, so firms need to plan strategies to work to reach an agreement, It is important to know the essential aspects of international negotiation, however culture influences directly in international negotiations, as not all countries negotiate the same way. Aspects such as values, habits, customs, religion, morality, etc. are essential to know, before a firm can have good communication and the n negotiating for a mutually beneficial. Horak, S. (2010). Sentencing Paper
Sentencing Paper Deadrian Williams CJS/ 200 3/3/2013 Bryan Maglicco Six Forms of Punishment Fines are one of the oldest forms of punishment, the use of fines as criminal sanctions suffers from built in inequities and a widespread failure to collect them (Schmalleger, 2011). Fines can deprive offenders of the proceeds of criminal activity, and also promote rehabilitation by enforcing economic responsibility (Schmalleger, 2011).People have to pay fines when they break minor laws, such as driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, disturbing the peace, public drunkenness, and vandalism (Schmalleger, 2011). Capital punishment is the death penalty. Capital punishment is the most extreme of all sentencing options (Schmalleger, 2011). Capital punishment is sentenced when someone comments a capital offense. In 2008, for example, a twenty eight year old man was sentenced to death in the atrocious murder of a ten year old girl in what authorities said was an elaborate plan to cannibalize the girls flesh (Schmalleger, 2011).Today, the federal government and 35 of the 50 states permit execution for first degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated rape, the murder of a police or corrections officer, or murder while under a life sentence (Schmalleger, 2011). Probation is another form of punishment. Probation means testing the behavior or abilities. In a legal sense, an offender on probation is ordered to follow certain conditions set forth by the court, often under the supervision of a probation officer (Wikipedia, 2013).Offenders are ordinarily required to refrain from firearms, and may be ordered to remain employed, have a curfew, live in a decent place and not leave the jurisdiction (Wikipedia, 2013). Incarceration is another form of punishment. Jails are shorter lock up centers ran by counties and operated by sheriffs (Cliffnotes. com Types of Sentences, 2013). Usually inmates that are in jail are waiting to go to trial who were unable to make bail, people with misdemeanors , and felons who violated probation (Cliffnotes. com Types of Sentences, 2013). Also people re incarcerated in prisons who are convicted felons. Prisons are operated by the state (Cliffnotes. com Types of Sentences, 2013). Community service is another form of punishment. Community service is paying your debt back to society for the wrong doings that a person does, by doing work that benefits the community (Cliffnotes. com Types of Sentences, 2013). People doing community service clean up highways, cut grass, plant trees and flowers, and wash away graffiti. People who are punished with community service have a certain amount of hours they must do to complete the community service order.Failure to complete community service can lead to possibly jail time and more fines. Reducing recidivism Recommendations on how to modify the sentencing process would be to look at the record of the defendant and also the severity of the crime when sentencing. If someone has committed a murder or a rap e, or kidnapping then they should get the severest sentence possible even if it is their first time because those crimes are against people. Families have been destroyed because of what the person did. Good behavior should not play in the sentencing of these offenders. They did not think about the victims when they committed the crime so the courts should not give them a break because of good behavior. If the sentencing process was stricter and focused more on the offender punishment and not what other people would say and feel about the crime then it would be a lot less crimes. The Importanceof a Successful essays
The Importanceof a Successful essays The Importance of a Successful NAFTA for the United States Economy In this new millennium, international trade and commercial relations are growing more quickly than world national economies. This area of growth is expected to be the source of economic prosperity for all nations. Governments worldwide are recognizing the importance of creating trade alliances and lower trade barriers and tariffs. The goal of these actions is to foster the deepening of economic integration among countries while at the same time safeguarding national sovereignty, (Orme P.48). As a result, many governments are now signing free-trade zone agreements and are realizing the potential strengths of their large markets. The North American Free Trade Agreement agreed upon by Canada, Mexico and the United States is one of strongest and most important agreements ever negotiated. NAFTA goes beyond just removing trade barriers; it is an agreement to integrate two developed nations and one developing nation, and their economies. NAFTA is successful, more so than the European Uni on, Mercosur, or any Asian agreement, because of the unquestionable dominance of the United States and the roles each nation plays. The United States is a technology advanced, prosperous and economically diverse country with a large population, Canada is a prosperous, resource and technology based country with a small population, and Mexico is a developing country with a large labor base and a rapidly growing population (Welcome P.12). Each nation is important for the success of NAFTA, and the North American economic integration. The North American integration is not something that was quickly started after the 1994 signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement. The integration has been a work in progress since the end of World War II, and would have continued even if NAFTA were not ratified. NAFTA is not a history changing agreement, but a tool, which can manage the ongoin...

No Hyphen in Ramshackled
No Hyphen in Ramshackled No Hyphen in ââ¬Å"Ramshackledâ⬠No Hyphen in ââ¬Å"Ramshackledâ⬠By Maeve Maddox When I saw ââ¬Å"ram-shackledâ⬠used to describe a boat. the image of a boat chained to a ram sprang immediately to mind. Both ramshackle and ramshackled are used to describe a building or other fairly large object in a state of extreme disrepair. The word started out as ransackled and is related to such words as ransom and sack (as in ââ¬Å"to pillage.â⬠) Iââ¬â¢ve also seen ramshackle/ramshackled written as two words: Ram-shackled economies headline at the New Statesman Factories in China range from some of the most modern in the world to small ram shackled facilities. story at the Huffington Post Both ramshackle and ramshackled should be written as one word. An Event in My Life that has One Cause with Three Results Essay
An Event in My Life that has One Cause with Three Results - Essay Example According to the paper, as the author declares "shortly after joining my first grade in school, my parents started to experience challenges in their marriage and after a period of not more than ten months, they filled a divorce case and were separated. This event was quite traumatizing to me and especially because I had never lived separately from my parents and had never imagined having parents who could not communicate effectively or even share a common ground on issues concerning my life. This event affected me psychologically and endured stress for a long time before being able to manage the condition. From this event, three types of stress each with particular consequences can be identified in relation to what happened to me afterwards. To begin with, an acute stress can be drawn from the immediate responses that could be identified in my routine schedule. Acute stress is the most common form of stress that is experienced by majority of people. This type of stress is highly mana geable and does not cause a lot of damage to a person if addressed soon. In the case of troubled parenthood from my parents, I started experiencing pressure to coordinate many issues in my life. Firstly, I began to worry about the fate of my parentsââ¬â¢ relationship after I noted that they were quarrelling frequently. In addition, it was a little challenging to have proper concentration in classroom especially in the morning lectures because of bad emotional experiences at home. Although after a short while I could concentrate in classroom work, the morning quarrels by my parents at home made me to be more worried and hence poor concentration at school. The second result of the event can generally be classified as chronic stress. Normally, the person involved gives up in search of a solution and can continuously be worn out by the stress. Ideally, short lived stress is beneficial to humans because it enables their body to respond to issues that require a lot of energy and immedia te response. "

Memo format Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Memo format - Essay Example The author and purpose of the video The author of this video is one Dr. Clarke John from New York. In 2009, this video won in the video PSA contest, defeating over 200 other videos. Video PSA contest was mainly concerned with the prevention of flu, and strategies that can be employed to prevent spread of flu. The purpose of this video is therefore, to enlighten people about the H1N1 virus, how it spreads, and the preventive measures that one can take to avoid infection. The audience This video does not target a specific audience, instead; it is intended for the whole public. Since the H1N1 virus affected the whole of USA, the public must be enlightened on the preventive strategies they can adopt to avoid future occurrence of the condition in the USA. Therefore, all Americans, children and adults, men and women, professionals, among others are therefore, audience of this video, since all are capable of catching H1N1 virus. What the author values, and what he appears to assume about th e audienceââ¬â¢s values The author of this video chose to spread the word about H1N1 virus through lyrics. Specifically, he uses the music genre of rap to deliver his message. As his primary choice of message delivery, this means that the author values music, specifically rap music. The author intended this message for an audience. This therefore, shows that the author assumes that the audience too value rap music. Since this is the best way he thought his message could reach the audience, it seems he assumes that Americans love rap music, therefore, will easily receive the message. How the author establishes credibility and character The author establishes credibility and character in his video mainly through the manner he presents himself, and the ideas in his message. For instance, he dresses decently in his white lab coat. Dressing this way is decent, and brings him out as a professional in the medical field. Therefore, the audience will value the message he delivers, as they will view it as credible. Although it is a rap video, this contrasts with the mainstream rap videos in the popular culture, as in this video, the author upholds professionalism, as seen in his decent attire. Professionalism is also evident in his presentation of facts, which enhances credibility and character. He uses formal and decent language while rapping. Most rap videos use informal and sometimes indecent language. Therefore, this makes the video and message therein credible, and brings out the character of the author in a positive manner. Additionally, the end of the video was shot in the authorââ¬â¢s office. This is a different setting, as the rest of the video part was shot at a strategic point in the streets of New York. An office environment increases the seriousness of the message and incorporates an element of professionalism in the rap clip. Credibility of the message in the video is also increased when the author lets the audience know the main source of his messag e in the video. It turns out that he got his message from a trusted government website on flu. It is more likely that the audience will trust the message and do as it says, since the information is credible, and from an individual with a credible character. How the author appeals to the audience In order to appeal to the audience, the author uses an element
